Isosine had the genius idea to mash up Justin Bieber and Slipknot. Like, this mash up is from early 2011, but I’m just hearing it for the first time, and it’s one hell of a way to start a year.

You may have noticed that we’ve cut back on the weekly “Any Asshole” feature. This is because it takes time to sift though all these people on the internet to find the ones we want to post. You could make our lives easier here at the To Eleven Institute of Sound and send self-shot videos of yourself or even, hey, your band to toelevenblog (at) gmail (Dot) com with the subject line “Hey Asshole,” and we’ll get them up in a special edition of Any Asshole.
Moving along, I thought we’d check in with some of our favorite Assholes…the ones who have turned YouTube into a career.
First up is Julia Nunes covering both The Supremes and Justin Bieber. Normally, those would be fighting words, but this is Julia.atch at the end, where she delves into her creative process, which involves the bathroom in one way or another.
Next, here’s an older one by Lauren O’Connell. She’s so good, we once did an Any Asshole just about her. She’s amazing. How she’s not signed to a major label, I’m not entirely sure.
And here’s Pomplamoose covering the theme to the Angry Birds game. I haven’t played the game…in fact, I think I’m going to pass on it. I don’t want to get sucked into another thing right now. Anyway, this vid’s pretty funny.
And finally, here’s Pomplamoose’s Jack Conte with…an alien, covering Katy…Perry’s E.T. Oh, come on, Jack!
Seriously, though, this is good.
And that’s it for this week’s Assholes. Send me your videos, and we’ll put you Assholes on the blog!

DJ Earworm is amazing. AMAZING. Here, he’s taken 15 songs and turned them into one, brand new song. And that brand new song? Better than the sum of its parts.
Once again, there is nothing coming out this week that I am particularly excited about. I promise you, I do not hate music, and I’m sure that there is good music coming out, but whatever that may be has slipped past my radar.
There are, however, a few things to note:
Various Artists-A Piano Tribute to Justin Bieber. Cc Ent / Copycats, 2010.
OK. I won’t speak ill of the dead, but…what? Justin Bieber’s not dead? Then why are we paying tribute to him? And why would you take a musician that is marketed towards hyperactive 12-year-old girls and play his music on piano? Everything about this looks bad on paper.
Infant Sorrow-Get Him to the Greek. Republic, 2010.
See my defense of concept albums, particularly the part about concept bands. I’m not sold on this, but I’ll eventually see the movie and decide then.
Jack Johnson-To The Sea. Universal Republic, 2010.
Look! Jack Johnson has a ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…

I’ve recently been told by several readers that I know in meatspace that “Any Asshole” is one of their favorite things we do on this blog. Thanks! We like it too!
For new readers, and I think we may have picked up a few in the last couple of weeks, the purpose of this feature is to show how awesome the Internet is in its ability to give any asshole with a guitar and a camera an audience.
So…moving right along…
I really like the New Order song “Love Vigilantes.” Like, that and “Bizarre Love Triangle” are my two favorite NO songs. So you can imagine that I was pretty excited when I found out that Iron & Wine, who are (is?) awesome in their (his?) own right was doing a cover of the song. RockCairn must have liked it, too, because here’s his cover of the cover. It’s a cover cover.
Here’s Spikedvff doing a pretty rocking cover of the Foo Fighters’ “My Hero.” The dude really likes Ghostbusters. I’m just sayin.
When I do karaoke, I usually bust out my rendition of “Street Spirit (Fade Out),” partially because it’s awesome, but mostly because I’m awesome. That said, alittledreamer’s rendition is pretty awesome, too. We can all be awesome together.
And finally, here’s a thing to prove my hypothesis on any asshole with a guitar and a camera getting an audience.
Apparently, a record executive saw this video, and BOOM! The internet can’t shut up about him. Any asshole with a guitar and a video camera CAN get an audience. FACT.
