Ok, so if you are at all in touch with the metal you’ve already heard of Janaza. If not, Janaza is a one-woman, anti-Islam, Iraqi black metal musician. So yeah, it’s kind of a thing. So I am writing about Janaza out of a sense of moral obligation as the guy that writes about metal than out of any really serious personal interest.

This is what I have to say:

I get kind of a thing from this, coming on the heels of Gay Girl In Damascus being a hoax. The skeptic in me just wonders if this is for real.

On the other hand, if it is, this woman is now the bravest musician in the entire world. Watain should quit playing music immediately and become accountants. This throws the overall pose that troo Norwegian black metal always was into such, such sharp relief. It blows my mind. If this is for real, then this woman could really easily be killed for this. It’s not like Lutherans are sending death squads after Varg. It’s an extremely brave thing for her to do to put her music out.

On the third hand, I don’t care, not even a little bit. A basement black metal record is a fart in a hurricane in terms of being a catalyst for social change in the Islamic world. That, and I don’t really want to live in a world run by people who are alternately nihilists, Satanists and/or Social Darwinists; which is what I think of when I think black metal. There is a fundamental flaw in assuming that if everyone is godless then we’ll all automatically be better off.

As music it ain’t half bad. You know I have a soft spot for extremely low quality black metal. There are some cool moments, etc. Doesn’t hold a candle to Vit or Eibon though.
