I remember in the past hearing sentiments expressed that there was no such thing as USBM. People would proudly proclaim allegiance to “True Norwegian Black Metal” by wearing t-shirts and starting faux controversy.

I just wanted to open with that because if such a sentiment prevents you from experiencing Vit, you’re blowing it. – is one of those albums that reminds me why I love metal. Vit aren’t afraid to craft their own sound. Combining black vocals, doom chords, progressive post-metal style elements and some old timey guitars. With the state of metal today, I honestly feel it takes some guts to float something out there like that genre purists are likely to scoff at. What makes this a genius album is that it’s combining these elements and forging them into a cohesive sound. The list is a dissection, when you’re listening to the album, you’re listening to Vit; you’re listening to musicians realizing their music approach. It’s beautiful. It destroys.

I’ve only enjoyed a handful of new metal albums this year so far, this is one of the best of the bunch.

Available as a limited edition CD at Music Ruins Lives.

Or digitally from Vit’s bandcamp.
