Review: Various Artists-Children of Mercy by jason

Various Artists-Children of Mercy. The Beechfields Record Lable, 2011.

OK…this is a pretty cool thing. Ron Trembath, a music blogger at fensepost.com, got a bunch of indie artists together to fight cystic fibrosis. The artists collaborated on a book about their music and what it takes to make it, as well as a CD. The CD is what we’re concerned with today.

What’s cool about the Children of Mercy CD is that you get a bunch of under-the-radar indie artists from several genres, from indie pop to folk and alt-country. It’s a nice sampler of a lot of great artists you may not have heard of. There are even a few foreign-language acts, like Indonesia’s BangkuTaman and Croatian artist Roberto Vadanovic. There’s a lot of variety here.

Some highlights include Lotte Kesner’s haunting “Compasses,” Redmalm’s chatotic electronic “No Truce Amongst Flies,” and Menhirs Of Er Grah’s very Dylanesque “Child of Mercy” (which, for some reason, is not on the compilation’s Bandcamp page).

The coolest thing about this compilation, however, is that for only $8, you can get a copy from The Project’s Website, with 100% of profits going directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. So for am $8 donation, you get some great music, and you have helped end cystic fibrosis. There’s no down side here, so go buy the thing already.
