Review: Soul Khan- Soul Like Khan: Starve the Ego, Feed the Soul by jason

Soul Khan- Soul Like Khan: Starve the Ego, Feed the Soul., 2011.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that Soul Khan’s Soul Like Khan was one of our favorite things to happen to 2010. If you haven’t heard it, download it for free from Khan’s site .

It’s also no secret that we loves us some mash-ups here. We dedicate every Monday to mash-ups. So we were pretty excited to hear that Frail Limb Purity, in conjunction with, released a free, track-by-track mash-up of Soul’s album.

This thing is frickin’ rad. Mash-up producers like Frail Limb Purity, DJ Schmolli, and even DJ Lobsterdust take these songs that were basically my Canton-to-Cleveland-drive soundtrack for the end of 2010 and made them new again.

Surprisingly, a couple of these songs actually work better mashed-up. “James Brown’s Knuckles,” the DJ BC remix of “Knuckle Puck,” matches the beat to each rapper’s rhythm, something I thought was slightly off in the original recording. “One in the Hand,” DJ Bahler’s mash-up of the XX’s “Intro” and Soul’s “Invisible Hand” is just all kinds of awesome. And “Suckin’ on Chrome,” Dj Schmolli’s remix of my least favorite song on Kahn’s album, comes much harder (no pun intended) than the original.

You can download this piece for free from, and there’s really no reason not to unless you really hate yourself. If that’s the case, though, download it anyway, and you’ll like yourself a bit more.
