Any Asshole with a Guitar and a Camera by jason

Ok. We have some more readers since I tried this, so I’mma do a thing. You see, the point of “Any Asshole” is to show that any asshole with a guitar and a camera (and maybe some talent) can find an audience. It’s the beautiful thing about the internet, really. So, here’s what we’re doing:

Do you have a video of you sitting in front of a camera, playing a song on guitar, piano, banjo, ukulele, etc.? Or, do you have any raw footage of your unsigned band playing a song? We’re not looking for music videos, mind you, just videos of you playing music live, preferably in your home. If so, put it on YouTube and send us a link.

The e-mail address is Just use “Any Asshole” as the subject line.

When we have enough (let’s say 3), we’ll do a special viewer edition of Any Asshole. So that you’re not just embarrassing yourself for our entertainment, I (that is, jason), will record myself, as well.

So send us your videos, Assholes!

OK, now for this week’s Any Asshole.

This first song is “The Same Things” by To Eleven favorite LaurenO’Connell, and it features To Eleven favorite Julia Nunes. Jayson might kill me for putting another video of Nunes on here, but hey. Anyway, it’s a great, original song by two very talented ladies, and even Jayson can’t argue with that!

Speaking of Lauren O’Connell, here’s a cover of Tom Waits’ “Diamonds and Gold” by the band My Terrible Friend, which is Lauren O’Connell and Nataly Dawn from To Eleven favorite Pomplamoose. A great cover, plus, if you watch it to the end, you get a bit of the My Terrible Friend road trip diary. Bonus.

And, if we’re featuring Nataly, we have to feature Jack Conte, the other half of Pomplemoose. He’s running a thing where you can have your artwork featured as an album cover, so if that’s your thing, watch his commentary at the end of this track. The track itself is a trippy instrumental piece called “On Planets.” It’s good stuff.

And finally, because this Any Asshole is lacking in Obligatory MGMT Covers(tm) and ukuleles, here’s Rae Carter picking up the slack.

And that’s it for this week’s Assholes! Send your vids, and next week’s Asshole might be you!
