to eleven

Any Asshole with a Guitar and a Camera by jason

OK…I hate to bring this up again, but…

THE TO ELEVEN CALL FOR ASSHOLES:

Do you play an instrument? Sing? Do anything musical? Or maybe you know a friend who does. Well, film yourself, put it on YouTube, enable embedding, and e-mail us the link! When we get enough (like, I’m thinking 4), we’ll do a To Eleven Fan Any Asshole! Hell, I (that is, jason)will post one of myself in this post, too, so you don’t have to worry about embarrassing yourself!

Our e-mail is toelevenblog@gmail.com. Put TO ELEVEN ASSHOLE in the subject line, and get recording!

Since I haven’t gotten any word from anyone yet on this, if you send something, it’s pretty much guaranteed to go up. I also want to add that if any of our readers are professional musicians who want to get the word out about your talents, this might be a way to do so!

Moving along…

First up, we have Wendy the Band covering Vampire Weekend’s “Giving up the Gun.” It sounds great, and the lead singer even looks a little like Ezra Koenig. It’s a pretty amazing how much it sounds like the original, given how minimalist this version is.

Next up is Sam Morton doing his rendition of Gorillaz’s “Clint Eastwood.” He changes things up a little, but it works for him. Speaking of people looking like other people, he kind of looks like Will Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean.

This one makes me happy. I love the song “My Only Offer” by Mates of State, so I was glad to see Dannielle Owens-Reid perform this awesome cover of it. There were a couple of other people covering this one on YouTube, but this was my favorite.

And finally, here’s Rebecka Rowan with her version of The Mountain Goats’ “This Year.” If you aren’t a Mountain Goats fan yet, you should be. Apparently, Rebecka is.

That’s it for the Assholes! Come back next week for more Assholes!

Well, that’s what you get for googling your own name; discovering you have attained asshole status on a website halfway round the world. ^_^

Happy holidays, and thanks for putting up my video! (I think…?)

You’re welcome! And for those who came late to the party, I use “Any Asshole” to mean “any ordinary person who, because of the internet, can get an audience.” It’s one of the great things about the internet.

I’ve heard that the other great thing is porn.
