Any Asshole With A Guitar and a Camera: 90s Edition by jason

This week’s Any Asshole is setting the Wayback machine way-way back to the 1990s. Anthropologists think that this era was marked by a high production of flannel, teenage garage bands, and angst, but that’s just speculation.

The following Assholes are playing the part of historical reenactors, giving us a taste of what like may have been like in this era. Let’s begin.

Here is Paul Canetti covering Nate Dogg and Warren G’s “Regulate.” Apparently, in the ’90s, rap music sounded much different than it does today. For instance, I did some research, and it looks like no one used Auto Tune. I know…it’s hard to imagine. Anyway, Canetti is pretty smooth here.

Next, we have jedimindelss with their cover of the song “Out of my Head” by Fastball. Again, I did some research, and it seems that Fastball were a group from the ’90s that recorded two songs. This is one of them.

And here’s axl77 covering Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train.” Anthropologists have found artifacts that suggest that the band’s gimmick was that their lead singer wore a mop on his head. The ’90s must have been strange times. Anyway, axl77 is recreating what this band must have sounded like, sans mop.

According to historians, Nirvana were a trio of gods who created the concept of music. One of the gods, Kurt, became the martyred messiah that brought about the modern age. Even in our enlightened age, there are still sects that worship these guys, including the Nirvana tribute band Seether. Anyway, here’s starwarspunk with her cover of Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box.”

If you like any of these Assholes’ reenactments, go to their YouTube page and tell them where you saw them!
